I can't think of a title for this entry.

I have not had a lot of time to blog. I have been working on the next Captain Capitalism cartoon as much as I can in my spare time. The cartoon is Christmas themed, so if I don't get it done by Dec 15th or so...it is pretty much a waste of time.

To complicate things, on nights like tonight, I sit and stare at a file in Flash and don't get much done, I just sit there and scrub the audio over and over again, 15 mins or so will go by with me just zoned out.

So I thought I would write a quick blog to change the pace. I have been making a list of things to blog about, so here is a random assortment of things I have done or seen recently.

Got to meet Bill Plympton at a local showing of his "Hair High" feature:

On a Captain Capitalismesque topic, there is a great DVD set (although it is a bit pricey) about Soviet propaganda animation. They put a good bit of the first DVD of the set online. Check it out here: http://store.russiananimation.com/ansopr.html

Also, sort of on point, Don Smith (a brilliant local animator and all around great guy) sent me a list around the time of the election about political affiliations of comic book characters:

When you are working on an animated cartoon you have lots of opportunites to add little details, since you get to be in control of everything. For instance, The cartoon I am working on has a lot of inspiration and references to Kevin Smith's Mallrats, since the cartoon takes place in a mall...and that is what I think of when I think of the mall.

In a stranger place to draw inspiration from, there is a part of the cartoon that uses Michelangelo's portrait of St. Bartholomew from the Sistine Chapel:

See if you can find it when the cartoon is done. Don't look for anything deep or symbolic. There was just one part that made me remember this image, so it ended up in there.

Speaking of the cartoon getting done...
