France- Day 1

After not sleeping on the flight over except for maybe a couple of the 9 hour flight, we hit the ground in gay Paris. We walked our over packed luggage to our hotel on the Isle of St. Louis. Our hotel was in a great location. An accordian player on the bridge gave us the proper auditory introduction to the city:

Our hotel was close to Notre Dame. Which is a stunning and breathtaking building. Those papists sure can erect a structure. Just kidding. We went through the building and lit a candle for a cousin of mine who just recently passed away in an accident.

After touring the hunchback's pad, we walked to the Tavern of Henry IV, which is near the halls of justice. We say many officers of the court in traditional robes and tried to imagine my attorney wife in such garb:

At the Tavern of Henry IV we had some proper French cuisine. The French can do some amazing things with pork and I wanted to try a little of everything after watching too much Anthony Bourdain in the states.

After lunch we went to St. Chapel and also to the Concierge, where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned before going to the guillotine. Mandy and I have been enjoying a book on the French Revolution so this was especially an interesting part of the trip:

After the Concierge we went and toured Les Bouquinistes, the small shops along the river, and then stopped at the Academy des Beaux Arts, where they were having a great exhibit on anatomy. Unfortunately I could not take photos, but being a big fan of figure drawing this was a great and very inspirational visit.

It was getting dark so we made our way to the Eiffel Tower. Mandy was not quite brave enough to go to the top, but the views were still amazing from the second tier of the structure:

After spending some time walking around the Latin Quarter, we took a metro back to the Isle St. Louis where we discovered a shop that was selling original Mucha prints. My good friend Brandon is a big Mucha fan so we took a look.

We discovered that an animation exhibit was showing down the street from our hotel, so we went to check it out but it was closed. We grabbed a snack from a patisserie and went to get some very jet-lagged rest.
